Founded four and a half years ago in May of 2001 the Denver Kickball Coalition is an organization of like-minded men and women with a passion for life, sport, and an ever-increasing dedication to their beloved hometown of Denver. Since its humble beginning as a small group of athletes, the DKBC has matured into being an active member of its community; multiple charity events, local outings, parties, generating local funds, and being one of the lowest costing kickball coalition in the nation. Accepting everyone with a desire to play - from small business owners to artists and musicians to the hipster elite - and possessing a passion for life as well as the game.
Four years after its inception this once small coalition has grown from playground antics into an twelve-team coalition, playing on two fields at Veteran's Park in a 16 week season, complete with a Draftee Scouting game, single elimination playoffs, and an All-Star game. The coalition is comprised of such colorful teams as Danny's Angels, The 9-to-5ers, and The Mohawk Iron Skulls, all sporting wildly inventive themes, chants, and uniforms. But of course, one cannot overlook the crown jewel of any good DKBC Season, the colossal end of season event known solely by the humble name of, "The Denver Boot".
As a completely open-to-the-public and very nearly free league, the DKBC has put out the call for all those who think they have what it takes to go large on and off the field. Show up, sign up as a team or as an individual kickbrawler and have some fun getting involved in our 2006 season.
The DKBC.org website is accepting sign-ups as of January 1st for new teams and individual draftees. Each team entry is being required to submit a proposed Team Name, Theme, and 6 person Roster. Team founders are strongly reminded to keep in mind that the more inventive and creative the better, and that in the end this is really all about having a good time. The individual draftees will be required to fill out a Player's Card with some basic vital statistics. After which it all comes together in early spring at the 1st Annual Draftee Scouting game, where the potential draftees will play in a pick-up game viewed by all the Team Captains, with a strong eye to the future of their teams.
Can't join us on the field? You can still lend a hand in other ways. We are always looking for spectators, statisticians, mascots, sponsors, umpires, organizers, party planners, team moms, vendors, costume designers, donors, performers for events, promoters, and YOU.
Still not convinced this is something you have to do, or is even for real? Check out the website for some Video Highlights of the 2005 Season (also available on DVD), and make sure to come out in top form this year, because the filming begins even earlier. Just remember to bring your passion for life, Denver, and a good pair of cleats.
